Terms & Conditions – SwicyBee

The guidelines for using SwicyBee

Last Updated: September 15, 2025

The Friendly Version: These terms basically boil down to: be cool, don’t steal my stuff, and remember that cooking involves some inherent risks (like the time I accidentally made my hot honey too hot and couldn’t taste anything for three days). I want SwicyBee to be a helpful, positive place for everyone who loves good food. If you have questions about any of this, just email me at contact@swicybee.com.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using SwicyBee, you’re agreeing to these terms and conditions. If you don’t agree with any part of these terms, please don’t use the website. It’s like entering my kitchen – by walking in, you’re agreeing to play by the house rules.

SwicyBee is owned and operated by Michael Carter, a food enthusiast based in New York City. When I say “we,” “us,” or “our” in these terms, I’m talking about SwicyBee and myself. When I say “you” or “your,” I’m talking about you, the person using the website.

Use of Content and Recipes

All the recipes, photos, videos, and written content on SwicyBee represent my original work and personal cooking experiences. Here’s how you can use this content:

What You CAN Do:

  • Cook the recipes: Please do! Make them for your family, friends, potluck dinners, or just yourself on a Tuesday night
  • Share recipe links: Link to SwicyBee recipes on social media, in emails, or on your own blog
  • Print recipes for personal use: Print them for your recipe binder, give copies to friends, tape them inside your kitchen cabinets
  • Modify recipes for dietary needs: Make them dairy-free, adjust spice levels, swap ingredients – cooking is about making food work for you
  • Share your results: Post photos of what you made on social media (tag us @swicybee – I love seeing your creations!)

What You CAN’T Do:

  • Copy entire recipes to other websites: Don’t republish my full recipes on your blog or website – share a link instead
  • Use my photos without permission: The food photography on SwicyBee is my work – please don’t use these images for your own projects
  • Sell my recipes: Don’t include SwicyBee recipes in cookbooks, apps, or other products you’re selling
  • Claim recipes as your own: If you share a SwicyBee recipe, please give credit where it’s due
  • Use content for commercial purposes: Restaurants, food companies, and other businesses need to contact me before using my recipes commercially

User Contributions and Comments

I love when readers share their experiences, modifications, and feedback! The comment sections and any user-generated content make SwicyBee a better resource for everyone. Here are the guidelines:

When You Comment or Contribute:

  • Be respectful: Treat other readers and me with kindness, even if you didn’t like a recipe
  • Stay on topic: Keep comments related to the recipe or cooking techniques
  • Share helpful info: If you modified a recipe, let others know what worked (or didn’t work)
  • Use appropriate language: Keep it family-friendly – there are home cooks of all ages here
  • Don’t spam: No promotional links, repetitive comments, or unrelated content

What I Can Do:

  • Moderate comments: I review comments to keep discussions helpful and friendly
  • Remove inappropriate content: Spam, offensive language, or unrelated comments may be deleted
  • Use your feedback: Great suggestions might inspire future recipe developments
  • Feature your modifications: If you share a brilliant recipe hack, I might highlight it in future posts

Intellectual Property Rights

Let’s talk about ownership, because this stuff matters:

SwicyBee’s Content:

  • Original recipes: The specific combination of ingredients, techniques, and instructions are my intellectual property
  • Photography and videos: All visual content is owned by SwicyBee unless otherwise noted
  • Written content: Blog posts, recipe descriptions, and technique guides are my original work
  • SwicyBee brand: The name, logo, and overall brand identity are protected

Your Content:

When you comment or share modifications, you retain ownership of your words, but you give SwicyBee permission to display, share, and potentially feature your contributions. I won’t use your comments for commercial purposes without asking first.

Food Safety and Cooking Disclaimers

Important: Cooking Involves Real Risks

I need to be clear about this: cooking involves inherent risks, and you’re responsible for your own safety in the kitchen. Here’s what you need to know:

General Food Safety:

  • Use proper food handling: Wash hands, avoid cross-contamination, cook to safe temperatures
  • Check expiration dates: Don’t use ingredients that have gone bad
  • Know your allergies: I try to note common allergens, but you’re responsible for checking ingredients
  • Trust your senses: If something looks, smells, or tastes off, don’t eat it

Hot Honey and Spice Safety:

  • Start with less heat: You can always add more spice, but you can’t take it back
  • Handle hot peppers carefully: Wear gloves, avoid touching your eyes, wash hands thoroughly
  • Hot honey is… hot: Be careful when heating honey – it can cause burns
  • Individual tolerance varies: What’s “mild” to me might be “fire” to you

Kitchen Safety:

  • Use proper equipment: Sharp knives, stable cutting boards, appropriate cookware
  • Be aware of temperatures: Hot oil, boiling water, and heated pans can cause serious burns
  • Keep a clean workspace: Reduces risk of accidents and foodborne illness
  • Know your limits: If a technique seems beyond your skill level, ask for help or find alternatives

Limitation of Liability

Here’s the legal stuff I need to say clearly: I provide recipes and cooking advice based on my personal experience and testing, but I can’t be held responsible for what happens in your kitchen.

SwicyBee and Michael Carter are not liable for:

  • Food poisoning or illness from following recipes
  • Kitchen accidents or injuries while cooking
  • Allergic reactions to ingredients
  • Recipes that don’t turn out as expected
  • Damage to kitchen equipment
  • Any other consequences of using SwicyBee content

I do my best to provide accurate, tested recipes and clear instructions, but cooking results can vary based on ingredients, equipment, technique, and environmental factors. Every kitchen is different, and every cook brings their own experience level.

Website Availability and Technical Issues

I try to keep SwicyBee running smoothly 24/7, but sometimes technical issues happen:

  • No guarantee of constant availability: The website might occasionally be down for maintenance or due to technical problems
  • Content may change: I regularly update recipes, add new content, and occasionally remove outdated posts
  • No warranty on accuracy: While I strive for accuracy, typos and errors can happen
  • Third-party links: I sometimes link to other websites or products, but I’m not responsible for their content or policies

External Links and Partnerships

SwicyBee sometimes includes links to other websites, products, or services:

Affiliate Links:

Some links may be affiliate links, meaning I earn a small commission if you purchase through them (at no extra cost to you). I only recommend products I actually use and believe in. These commissions help keep SwicyBee running and allow me to keep creating free content.

Product Recommendations:

When I recommend kitchen tools, ingredients, or equipment, it’s based on my genuine experience. However, your results may vary, and you should research any purchases yourself.

External Websites:

I’m not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or policies of other websites you visit through SwicyBee links.

Privacy and Data

How we handle your personal information is covered in detail in our Privacy Policy. The short version: we respect your privacy, never sell your data, and only collect what’s necessary to provide a good experience.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of New York State and the United States. Any legal disputes would be handled in New York courts. But honestly, I’d much rather resolve any issues through friendly conversation – email me at contact@swicybee.com if you have concerns.

Changes to Terms

I may update these terms occasionally, usually when:

  • Adding new features to the website
  • Legal requirements change
  • I expand the business in some way
  • I realize something needs clarification

When I make significant changes, I’ll:

  • Update the “Last Updated” date at the top
  • Send an email to newsletter subscribers about major changes
  • Post a notice on the website

Continued use of SwicyBee after changes means you accept the updated terms.

A Personal Note

Look, I know terms and conditions aren’t exactly riveting reading, but this stuff protects both of us. My goal is to create a positive, helpful community around great food. I want you to cook my recipes, share your successes (and failures – we’ve all been there), and feel confident in your kitchen.

These terms aren’t meant to scare anyone away – they’re just the rules of the road that let us all enjoy SwicyBee safely and fairly. If something doesn’t make sense or seems unreasonable, please let me know. I’m always open to feedback.

Now, let’s get back to the important stuff: making delicious swicy food!
